Jonathan Tamir is currently the Vice Chair for Finance & Administration, Department Administrator and CFO for the Department of Medicine at the Columbia University School of Medicine (CUMC). The Department of Medicine at CUMC consists of 14 divisions and 16 centers for clinical care and medical research with over 1,300 faculty members and a budget exceeding $400 million annually. In his more than 25 years in health care, Jonathan has concentrated on improving physician and hospital relationships, optimizing operational processes with a special emphasis on customer service, and using metrics to maximize the results of the revenue cycle. Jonathan received his BSBME in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and his MBA in Healthcare Management and Marketing at Wharton. After Wharton, Jonathan was accepted into Massachusetts General Hospital’s prestigious Administrative Fellowship Program, which helped him build a solid foundation in institutional operations. Jonathan is passionate about developing innovative and profitable clinical programs, providing great customer service to patients and developing the next generation of health care leaders. He has developed and taught courses at both Montefiore Medical Center and the Yale School of Medicine about customer service and the principles of management, as well as a yearlong course on leadership development. Jonathan believes strongly that fellowship programs are essential to developing the health care leaders of tomorrow, and to that end he has established year-long post-graduate fellowship programs at Montefiore, Yale and Columbia. Graduates of these fellowship programs have clinical leadership jobs ranging from New York City down to Washington, D.C.
