Sarah Ryan WG05

Wharton Alumni Affairs, Europe, Middle East and Africa
After graduating with a degree in economics from Duke University, Sarah Ryan began her career at Merrill Lynch in the global industries coverage group in her hometown of Chicago, where she advised companies in the industrial and automotive sectors on strategic alternatives, and then in equity capital markets in London, where she marketed, priced and allocated IPOs, secondaries and convertible-bond offerings. Sarah returned to Merrill Lynch after Wharton, joining the M&A group in London. She also was director of international M&A for LexisNexis and Thomson Financial. In these roles, she led transaction due diligence and structured complex deal terms globally, including deals in the Middle East, Russia, China, India, South Africa and Europe. Deciding that 10 years in investment banking was more than enough for someone who was never very good at math, Sarah is thrilled to now be working at Wharton in Alumni Affairs. Sarah also has extensive mentoring, interviewing and teaching experience. She serves as a business mentor in the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Scheme and for Astia, a nonprofit that advises high-growth startups on financing alternatives. She has taught investment banking analyst training programs and MBA-level accounting and marketing courses, as well as served as career coach and adviser to students at London Business School. In her spare time, Sarah practices yoga daily, loves to cycle and walk the streets of London, and regularly visits the myriad of free museums in London.
